Arrived in good condition on time. Worked straight out of the box. No need to sign in to anything. Replacement for Blackberry Z10/Passport. Pros: Hardware; Comfortable to hold, when closed one button press shows time/date/notifications, Open screen shows reception strength/battery charge/camera button + prior info. Intuitive interface with just one central button press revealing all applications. Left centre & down buttons access email & calls log. Contacts can be accessed directly from right scroll button & top scroll button turns volume/mobile data/torch/brightness/wifi/bt/ap mode on & off, beautifully presented main screen with bright colours & 3 pages of native applications like contacts/call logs/messages etc and with access to a store of others, numbers can be directly dialled from the main screen or selected from the call logs app, battery charge time max 3 hrs, calls are clear and so far no calls or texts dropped as far as known. Software: All native applications work well with call logs and email easily set up, Cons: Hardware; The numerical keyboard doubling as a querty one means text inputting is slow and dependent on a quirky predictive text app which makes texting & emailing a bit cumbersome but bearable - after all such a layout is not expected to match a full key board and a virtual one is probably quite impossible in such a low spec device. Overall, Nokia & Kai OS have combined to provide a hopefully privacy focussed and secure device that removes dependence on Google Android that was well worth waiting for.
Ok, I want to start this review by saying this is the 2nd feature phone I have ever used and my 3rd flip phone overall. My last one [ZTE] broke, so I decided to try out a new phone. I bought this one specifically because in the display photos, you can see Google Maps and WhatsApp. I have been using the phone for about 2 months, and here's what I have to say:
- The description claims "up to 28 days of standby with a single charge"
Maybe I just got a bad battery, but my phone struggles to last HOURS without the battery saving mode on. With it on, it almost lasts my work day. I always need to bring my portable charger when i go out.
- The Nokia brand was known for durability, but this phone has the same problem as other Androids, where if you drop it from too high up the back cover and battery fly out.
- WhatsApp cannot be downloaded on this phone. I think KaiOS phased it out.
- Google Maps comes preinstalled, BUT it does not appear on the homescreen. You have to open the app store every time you want to use it.
- Same with YouTube.
- A problem I never had with my ZTE, this phone sometimes thinks I'm roaming when I KNOW I am in my service area?
- The speaker and camera are okay, and I like the keypad.
- It has a flashlight, which is nice.
- Overall the phone looks very stylish.
If all you need is talk, text, and a standard mp3 player, this phone isn't bad.
If you're looking for a nice little phone to do the basics, it's not a bad option
Exceeds expectations. Big, chunky, easy to install battery. I like the color (Grey) will be putting a black case on it. Big numbers. This phone is "retro" in all the right ways.
Easy to see all that is important to me, easy to navigate settings, etc. ALL without touching the fing screen. This is exactly what I wanted in my new phone and it is compatible with my preferred Carrier.
I am feeling very happy about this new freedom from "touchscreen"...
his phone has all the everyday features I use on my smartphone including a chrome browser, and google maps. So it has essentials, but also keeps my screentime to a minimum. Thanks!
